Morebus showing support for charity during Poole Festival of Running

Monday, May 21 2018

Morebus is continuing its support for Poole Hospital Charity, by offering discounted travel for those taking part in Poole Festival of Running.

The charity is the event’s nominated good cause, with many runners planning to raise much-needed funds through sponsorship. And Morebus is allowing all participants to travel for the cost of a child ticket on Saturday 2 June and Sunday 3 June if they show drivers their proof of entry.

“Poole Hospital Charity is also our own official good cause for 2018,” said Morebus head of communications Nikki Honer. “It’s a crucial local resource, helping to pay for additional equipment, research and innovations - as well as finishing touches and ‘extras’ that complement the existing high quality care for patients in and around the town.

“We know how important Poole Festival of Running is, in terms of raising money. We want it to run as smoothly as possible, so we’re encouraging people to leave their cars at home and take the bus to help ease congestion on what promises to be a very busy weekend.

“Indeed, some of our own Morebus team will be taking part - including Andy Kemp and Ray Standhaft. Andy raised an impressive £610 from his efforts last year, and he’ll be running in honour of his colleague Wayne Bowld who was recently treated at Poole Hospital.

“We’d like to wish them and all those involved the very best of luck for a successful event - whether they are participating or part of the organising team.”

Sophie Lawson, events and challenges fundraising coordinator for Poole Hospital Charity, added: “We are very grateful for the support from Morebus and Poole Festival of Running. With one in two of us likely to receive a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime, we are asking people to sign up and get sponsored to raise money to help Poole Hospital fight cancer.

"The 5K Run for Cancer is a great way to get involved and get sponsored. You don’t have to be a seasoned runner, just willing to make a difference by walking, jogging or running to the finish line. We are looking forward to cheering everybody on across the weekend.”
