Great news! The £2 single journey initiative has been extended once again
1 year ago
Bus passengers across Dorset will continue to be able to travel on single journeys across the region for £2.
We signed up to the Department for Transport (DfT) initiative - which restricts the cost of a single ticket - at the beginning of the year. An essential part of the Government’s Help for Households scheme, the fare cap was originally set to end on 31 October 2023 but has now been extended.
“I am pleased to announce that Morebus will continue to offer the £2 fare cap - in line with the Government’s announcement that the initiative will be extended,” said Andrew Wickham, Morebus managing director.
We expect the cap to continue until at least 31 December 2024, and this will allow us to carry on providing low-cost bus travel. It will also help to protect many routes relied upon by local people.
Our aim is for people to change their travel habits, so they opt for the bus and other sustainable methods of travel instead of using their own vehicles to travel across the region. With one fully-loaded double decker bus having the potential to take up to 75 cars off the road, this is an excellent opportunity to reduce congestion across the region.
Our customers will be able to travel on any single journey, on any of our buses - including the Breezer services - for £2 or less. They can also use any payment method - including tap on, tap off contactless, the app, and cash.
As the £2 fare is so simple we would also like to encourage as many people to use tap on tap off paperless ticketing - just tap your contactless card on the ticket machine with the driver and tap off at the reader by the door as you leave.
