The Great Tail Trail will be creating waves across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole in 2025, with more than 40 artist-designed giant mermaid tail sculptures in popular locations.
Running from 5 April to 1 June 2025, these super-sized sculptures will create a free family-friendly walking trail through some of BCP’s most well-loved places – along the coast and in the towns, parks and open spaces.
The colourful, one-of-a-kind mermaid tails will then head off to their forever homes after being auctioned at a special event to raise vital funds for Julia’s House children’s hospice. Each of the sculptures will be sponsored by a local business or organisation and sponsors will be able to select their favourite design from a selection submitted by local and nationally-renowned artists. We have been lucky enough to sponsor a tail as part of this wonderful initiative!
You'll find this free family-friendly walking trail through popular locations across BCP. There'll be mermaid tail sculptures along the coast and in the towns and parks, shining a light on the landmarks and culture that are at the heart of our beautiful area.
As well as encouraging local residents to re-discover the towns they love, the fin-tastic public art spectacle is expected to attract thousands of visitors from outside the area, providing a welcome boost for local businesses and raising the profile of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
