Breezing around Dorset for free

Breezing around Dorset for FREE this summer!

We’ve all been impacted by the cost-of-living crisis and our two savvy pensioners, Carol 78 from Reading and Marie 81 from Basingstoke, certainly took advantage of their free bus passes on their short break to Poole this summer.

Staying with their daughter/niece in Poole for a few days gave them an ideal base to explore Dorset.  However, with so much to see and do, they wanted to pack as much into their short break as possible.  They weren’t keen on driving so knew that hopping on-and-off the buses was the way to go - especially as they could travel for free after 9.30am.

A very important factor for them was to make sure there were regular toilet stops and coffee breaks!

They hopped on a 4 from Broadstone to Poole and then straight onto the Beach Breezer – admittedly feeling a bit suspicious of the great British weather, they wrapped themselves up for the morning outing. First stop Alum Chine, time for a toilet stop and top up with coffee.  Alum Chine didn’t disappoint with its glorious beaches and coastline views. In fact, both ladies were both so taken with the surroundings, they walked along the flat promenade to Bournemouth. Just in time for another toilet break!

Here they hopped on the Beach Breezer to continue their journey to Hengistbury Head, where they were looking forward to lunch at the café next to the bus stop - as well as a little exploring of this amazing nature reserve.

They indulged in great big jacket potatoes and decided to have them as a takeaway and walk along one of the less used footpaths to enjoy a quiet spot looking out towards Christchurch.

Now back to the bus, they headed off on the Beach Breezer towards Poole.  They’d enjoyed the views at Alum Chine so much earlier they felt it worthy of a second stop off and an afternoon cup of tea at the same café with the amazing views.
