A local group, dedicated to saving items from landfill, while supporting the local community, has received a financial boost from Morebus.

Bournemouth Recycle was initially set up to support the environment by re-homing materials to keep them out of landfill. These are passed on for local people to use, with no charge.

Now, the group also collects items for local charities and runs a food surplus scheme.

“We collect vast amounts of food from supermarkets and distribute it to the local community three times every week,” said Sharon Valler, Group Founder. “This supports, on average, 30 to 40 vulnerable households each time.

“We are staffed by volunteers, and rely entirely on donations. We try to support NHS teams with food parcels and goody bags for hospital wards at Christmas, and approached Morebus for help through its community fund. We’d like to thank them for their generous donation.”

The bus operator’s community fund is a dedicated resource for backing local causes with funding, marketing help, free travel or the use of its buses for events.

Richard Wade, Morebus general manager, added: “We are pleased to be donating £500, which will be used to fund food and care parcels for NHS wards across the BCP area.

“Bournemouth Recycle does excellent work, for vulnerable members of our community, whilst helping the environment at the same time - and this is exactly the type of cause our community fund is designed to support.”
