We have recently made a cash donation to a local initiative, who aim to clear litter from the streets of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

Dorset Devils BCP litter pickers are benefitting from this round of our community fund. The group will use the money to buy new equipment and Hi Vis jackets, so youngsters volunteering as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme can litter pick in their own areas.

“Dorset Devils works with local young people in the BCP area to help them gain their DofE Awards. As part of this, we provide them with information on the art of litter picking, including health and safety advice - and we provide them with all the equipment they need,” said Peter Ryan from Dorset Devils.

“This is a great opportunity for these volunteers to do something really worthwhile within their own communities - and it benefits those living in these areas too.

They have lots of young volunteers every year, so they're always in need of extra equipment. With this in mind, they contacted us - and we decided to choose them as our community fund winners for this round. This is a fantastic local initiative, which has a positive and significant impact on our environment, so we’re pleased to be able to help them buy some more equipment. We’re always keen to cement good relationships with those living within our local communities - and this donation is part that.

It also ties in wonderfully with our bid to improve air quality and help lower emissions in Dorset - by encouraging people to leave their cars at home and use sustainable transport instead.

Our community fund is open to applicants in March and September. To apply, groups should provide details about their cause, what they need, and the difference the support might make to their organisation.
