Julia's House Great Tail Trail

Mermaid tail sculpture Julia's House

The Great Tail Trail will be creating waves across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole in 2025, with more than 40 artist-designed giant mermaid tail sculptures in popular locations.

Running from 5 April to 1 June 2025, these super-sized sculptures will create a free family-friendly walking trail through some of BCP’s most well-loved places – along the coast and in the towns, parks and open spaces.

We've been lucky enough to sponsor one of these spectacular sculptures which will be located in Christchurch, but this is just one of many to discover across the BCP area.

You'll find this free family-friendly walking trail through popular locations across BCP. There'll be mermaid tail sculptures along the coast and in the towns and parks, shining a light on the landmarks and culture that are at the heart of our beautiful area.

As well as encouraging local residents to re-discover the towns they love, the fin-tastic public art spectacle is expected to attract thousands of visitors from outside the area, providing a welcome boost for local businesses and raising the profile of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

We'd like to encourage locals and visitors of the area to visit the trail by bus. You can hop on and off buses all day with one of our dayrider tickets and see how many tails you can discover. All of the 45 large sculptures fall within Zone A so you can have unlimited travel all day for just £5 when you buy your dayrider on the Morebus app. Or up to five people can travel in a group for just £14. Don't forget up to two kids under 7 can travel for free with a paying adult.

We have created a handy map to show you which buses can take you to see groups of tails across the BCP area - can you discover them all in one day? We haven't revealed the exact location of each one, you can either keep it a mystery of buy a trail map from one of their charity shop locations. You can also download the Great Tail Trail app which will reveal the map, let you collect sculptures to unlock rewards, track your steps and more.
