Learn CPR - Charity Bus at Restart a Heart Day event in Bournemouth
1 year ago
Morebus is marking Restart a Heart Day by supporting University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust at an event, designed to teach people life-saving skills, on Tuesday 14 October.
Our specially-branded bus will be at Bournemouth Square as a base for people to practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of the Trust’s event - with a resuscitation team and hospital colleagues on-hand to provide a whole host of activities.
“Being able to recognise if someone is in cardiac arrest, and knowing how to start CPR is a vital skill that really could save a life,” said Morebus general manager, Richard Wade. “This event is designed to teach people just that and much more, including how to use the defibrillators which are becoming commonplace in key locations across our community.
“Providing people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to stay calm in an emergency and help a person in need is so important - because none of us knows if or when we might be faced with this situation.
“We’re delighted to be supporting our corporate charity, University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, at this special event - and we’re looking forward to welcoming as many people as possible on-board our charity bus in Bournemouth Square later this month.”
Liz Ponsford, resucitation officer from the resuscitation team at University Hospitals Dorset (UHD), said: “Cardiac arrest can impact anyone, and each minute without CPR and defibrillation diminishes the chance of survival by 10 percent. However, by acquiring the skills to save a life, we all have the potential to make a significant difference.
“Our Resuscitation Team at UHD is dedicated to teaching the community how to save lives and instilling the confidence needed to perform CPR. Early CPR can double the likelihood of survival. We invite everyone to join us, engage with this vital training, and learn something new.”
Restart a Heart Day takes place on and around 16 October each year to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and the importance of learning CPR.
The initiative is led by Resuscitation Council UK, supported by British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross, St John Ambulance, the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, NHS England, Save a Life for Scotland, Save a Life Cymru, and Northern Ireland Ambulance.
Morebus will be hosting experts and members of the public on-board its bus at the event in Bournemouth Square on Tuesday 14 October between 10am and 3pm.
