Man and woman in front of a bus with a paddleboard

We've teamed up with world-record-holding paddle boarding adventurer, David Haze, to demonstrate just how easy it is to explore the region by bus - even with a paddle board in tow.

Dorset-based David is currently the most decorated paddling adventurer in the world - and is keen to show just how accessible outdoor adventures across the area’s spectacular coastline can be by taking advantage of public transport.

“I’m incredibly passionate about my home county, and the amazing stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) opportunities it offers along the stunning Dorset coastline,” said David.

“And, to demonstrate just how easy it is to reach the array of beautiful locations on offer here, I’m going to travel with Morebus on all my adventures for the rest of the summer.

“I’ll be highlighting, for adventure-seekers, just how convenient it can be to take the bus here. There are around 7.9 million ‘paddlers’ across the UK - and it’s now the fastest growing water sport globally. Dorset has one of the highest concentrations of paddlers in the country - so I’m hoping others will follow my example.

“Like many, I have an inflatable paddle board which packs down to the size of a regular hiking backpack - so it doesn’t take up much space at all. We’re lucky here to have a fantastic variety of accessible locations, like Sandbanks, Bournemouth Pier and Christchurch. But, beyond those, the BCP area offers some truly spectacular and more adventurous coastal spots that many people don’t know about yet.

“I’ll be working with Morebus to explore these hidden gems, to highlight them, and to show just how accessible they are for those wanting to get involved. I know not everyone has a paddle board but there are lots of places to hire them across our area.”

David will be documenting his adventures via @nomadicpaddler on Instagram.

Working with David is a wonderful way to kick off our ‘More Fun’ campaign - which encourages local people and visitors to travel across the region by bus, not just to commute, but for leisure activities too.

Our Dayrider tickets, which often cost less than two single fares, allow people to hop on-and-off our buses all day - allowing opportunities for exploring and fun in multiple locations. For those travelling with friends or family, our group tickets generally cost less than parking charges in BCP, so an excellent reason to ditch the car and travel by bus instead.

David will be using the journey planner, featured in the Morebus app. It’s an incredibly useful tool, and it also demonstrates how much co2 he is saving by making good use of the sustainable transport available here in Dorset.

We wish David a fantastic summer of adventures, and we can’t wait to hear all about them.
