Mystery tour planned for local single parent families - thanks to financial support from Morebus

SMILE - a local charity supporting vulnerable single-parent women and their children - is the latest recipient of Morebus’ community fund.

The charity works on behalf of single mums, helping with public services and challenging the stigma surrounding single parenthood. It empowers families through confidence workshops, money courses, trauma-informed/self awareness programmes and practical community support.

“Each year, SMILE runs a six-week holiday programme - during what can be a very challenging time, financially and emotionally for single parent families,” said Lucy Whiteway Events & Volunteer Co-ordinator from SMILE.

“As part of this, we plan to create two or three dedicated events just for teenagers and their parent. These experiences are designed to give mums and teens precious one-to-one time - helping them reconnect, make meaningful memories, and restore confidence.

“We rely on donations from local individuals and businesses to run these special events, and we approached Morebus for help from its community fund.

“Support from the bus company through the donation of the bus travel is allowing us to create a special mystery tour for our teens and their parent. It will be a surprise adventure, where they board a bus without knowing the destination.

“Transport is one of the biggest barriers for many of our families and, without support from Morebus, a trip of this scale would be completely out-of-reach. Thanks to Morebus, we can offer something truly exciting - an experience that stands out, builds confidence, and creates a core memory they’ll carry with them for years.”

Richard Wade, Morebus general manager, added; “This kind of experience can make a huge difference to the wellbeing of families across our region, and I’m happy we are able to help.

“I wish them a thoroughly enjoyable day, and hope the memories they create will stay with them for some time to come.”
