Things to do this summer

With the school holidays almost here, how are you going to keep the little ones entertained? With soft sandy beaches, and lots of traditional seaside attractions, we have listed places for a great family day out and lots of seaside fun!

Take an open-top safari through magical landscapes on The New Forest Tour bus

The Tour returned on Saturday 6th July 2019 and run daily until Sunday 8th September 2019.

From the beginning of July through to September the New Forest Tour runs three open top tour routes through the heart of the beautiful National Park. Enjoy grandstand views of the New Forest National Park – wandering ponies, pretty villages and magical landscapes. Stop off at the many attractions such as Beaulieu Motor Museum, Exbury Gardens and New Forest Wildlife Park to name a few!

Spend some time in Wimborne 

Located on the bank of the River Stour and Allen, Wimborne is a beautiful, historic market town - perfectly placed for riverside walks around the waterside meadows, with views of the local countryside wildlife. The town has plenty of cafés and restaurants to enjoy with a blend of charming independent boutiques, specialist shops and high street stores to browse. An antiques market is held each Friday, a flea market on Saturday and a combination of both every Sunday.

Get competitive at Mr Mulligan’s

Taking adventure golf to the next level. Book your family days out, couples date nights, children’s birthday parties and corporate events. This unforgettable venue is jam-packed full of excitement as you are taken on a spectacular journey through a comic book, unearthly light experience and apocalyptic crash scene.

Take a Coastal Walk

Warmer weather and lighter evenings make summer the perfect time to enjoy a coastal walk. Bournemouth is surrounded by amazing countryside so it’s the perfect place to head if you want to get some fresh sea air and feel the sun on your face. Take a leisurely stroll from Bournemouth Pier to Sandbanks beach and enjoy beautiful seaside views along the way. There are no hills to tackle on this walk and plenty of cafés and restaurants along the way. If you’re a regular hiker, you will appreciate the walk from Bournemouth Pier to Swanage, which takes in stunning views of Old Harry Rocks, and The Pinnacles, Studland and Bournemouth beaches.

Reach New Heights at RockReef 

Reach new heights with a RockReef adventure on Bournemouth Pier. Take on the 28 climbing challenges, Pier Cave, HighLine obstacle course or the adrenaline-pumping Vertical Slide or Leap of Faith. If you’re feeling brave enough, try the PierZip, the world’s first pier to shore zip wire experience. Activities are suitable for youngsters aged 4 and up, and some height and weight safety restrictions apply.

Head on an adventure to Corfe Castle

The dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle stand on a natural hill guarding the principal route through the Purbeck Hills. As you can see it guards the gap between the south of Purbeck, where Purbeck marble was once quarried, and the rest of England.

Finish your day with a cream tea at the tea-room in the heart of Corfe Castle village, which has unique views of the castle from the garden and a cosy atmosphere.

Wear off some energy at Oasis Fun

Want to keep the kids entertained? Then why not visit Oasis Fun for a fun-filled experience for the whole family. They have an amazing bowling alley with 6 lanes, an indoor soft play centre, large Adventure Golf course, arcades and pool tables. Oh, and they serve delicious food and drinks in the American diner and bar. Please note, the diner is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only.

Spend the day in Swanage

Swanage is a popular destination with award winning sandy beaches and beautiful countryside. It offers many sports and activities from a relaxing walk in the countryside to cycle routes for all abilities, and for the more adventurous, rock climbing and water sports. Enjoy a meal in one of the many restaurants and cafes or have a drink in one of the local pubs or bars, or shop in one of the businesses offering local food – whatever you fancy, you will find something for everyone.

Take a trip to the Oceanarium

Take an underwater adventure and learn all about the fascinating creatures from above and below the waves at Bournemouth’s very own aquarium. Come face to face with sharks, sea turtles, stingrays, dwarf crocodiles, clownfish and even a cute colony of penguins. At Oceanarium, you will travel through the amazon, Great Barrier Reef and even the Ganges to see over 150 species of fish. Watch the water come alive while penguins, otters, and sea turtles get their grub during daily feed talks and if you’re feeling brave, why not join the sharks in the virtual interactive dive cage? Make sure you stop off for a refreshment at Bay View Terrace for panoramic views of Bournemouth bay.

Visit the New Forest towns

Visit the market town of Lymington, located on the edge of the Lymington Estuary the town has a very nautical feel! Wander through the local salt marshes and enjoy the coastal scenery and wildlife before enjoying some traditional fish and chips in the marina. Saturday is market day in Lymington and it really brings the High Street to life!

Get to Lymington on the X1 or X2 buses from Bournemouth.

Why not delve a bit further and head to Ringwood?

Home to Ringwood Brewery, a collection of designer and independent shops, large supermarkets including Sainsbury’s and Waitrose as well as an abundance of delightful cafes, Ringwood is a wonderful place to whittle away a few hours. Market day in Ringwood is a Wednesday, which is well worth a look.

Get to Ringwood on the X3, X6, 38 buses and once there travel around town on the Ringo.

Shoot some balls at Mini Golf in the gardens

The 18 hole mini course is at the heart of the Lower Gardens between Bournemouth pier and the main town centre. This classic course includes 12 accessible holes, which are suitable for people with reduced mobility or who use a wheelchair.

Spend the day with some furry friends at Farmer Palmers

Farmer Palmers Farm Park is packed with fun-filled play and lots of cute and friendly animals! With attractions designed specifically with under 8s in mind, the park is guaranteed to keep your little ones entertained throughout your stay. Hop on the Purbeck Breezer 40 from Poole and get off right outside the door.

Catch up with family or friends at Tower Park

At Tower Park, Poole, a galaxy of entertainment unfolds. With the Splashdown Water Park and Empire Cinema, Tenpin bowling, kid’s soft play, bingo and a range of restaurants, there's enough to keep you busy whatever the weather.
